2015 to 2018
The restoration
Between 2015 and 2018 the house was taken back from neglect and vandalism. Where the old wood could be kept, it was.
The lounge floor became the kitchen cupboards
The original yellowwood floor of the lounge had to be lifted because it was completely rotten. A carpenter hand-crafted the lifted wood into the kitchen cupboards.
Photos: Kitchen →A secret door
While the kitchen walls were being re-tiled a secret door was discovered in the wall leading to the downstairs bedroom. It was closed in again, for someone in the future to discover.
Photos: Kitchen →The extra showers came out
All the extra showers that the backpackers had put into the bathrooms were removed.
Photos: Bathroom upstairs →The outside stairs were rebuilt
The bathroom that had been built into the outside stairs was broken out, and the staircase rebuilt.
Photos: Outside stairs →What is still original
The upstairs bedrooms and the downstairs parlour still have their original Oregon pine and yellowwood floors. In the parlour the fireplace and the mirror above it are original, as is the pressed ceiling in the lounge.
